Jeff Hirsch traces his family's entrance into the RV business to a bad experience his parents, Arthur and Francis, had at an RV dealership years ago. They saved a little money and wanted something more comfortable than a tent, Jeff recalled. "They went to an RV dealership, but the sales people were playing cards and weren't very interested in selling RV's. My father, who worked as a mold maker, was furious. As far as he was concerned, his money was just as green as everybody else's."
On the way home his parents had a discussion about how they were treated and got so worked up that they decided they could do a better job running their own dealership. They started in 1966 with four folding tent trailers. Jeff's father kept his machinist job until the 1970's, when the family committed themselves to the dealership full time. The business took off and now Campers Inn is one of the largest retail outlets for RV's in the Northeast.
